How to write a good peer review

Your peer review is graded individually with the peer review rubric.

  1. Start with a short summary of the paper in your own words: question, methods, main result.
  2. Major comments first: problems that affect the conclusion. Check the methods (search, eligibility, risk of bias, effect measure, model) and whether the results support the conclusion.
  3. Minor comments next: clarity, tables and figures, references, language.
  4. Be specific: refer to a page, section, table or figure.
  5. Be constructive: every main comment comes with a suggestion for improvement.
  6. Use the course concepts: PRISMA 2020, NOS, fixed versus random effects, I², funnel plot.
